Data Infrastructures
When environmental regulators collect data, they don’t always create tools to allow easy public access. We want to see public environmental data become widely findable and accessible for researchers, journalists, activists, and ordinary people.
We built a database to centralize U.S. oil refineries’ measurements of carcinogenic benzene in the air surrounding their facilities. Access the database through our API.
We created a website from which you can download benzene concentration data for any oil refinery, or all the refineries in your state or EPA region.
We are partnering with the Open Environmental Data Project to identify researchers’ needs for upgraded infrastructure to access public environmental data.
